No. Maids by Trade only hires employees who are authorized to work in the U.S. Therefore they are covered under our worker’s compensation policies, should there be an incident in your home.

Note: It’s the homeowners responsibility to obtain proof of insurance and confirm up-to-date coverage as well as a current insurance policy when hiring independent contractors.
Hiring independent contractors or subcontractors drastically increases the liability for homeowners as every policy needs to be confirmed before every appointment, as oftentimes contractors might obtain proof of insurance for a period of time but the policy might be cancelled a week or two after the proof of insurance has been provided.

We’re a Pay-per Appointment type of business. Since we don’t do credit applications or checks, we require payment at the time of service. All first cleaning appointments are secured with a pre-authorization on your credit card that will be adjusted once the cleaning has been completed.

Note. If a job takes less than the estimated time, the pre-authorization will be adjusted to reflect the actual charge. If a job takes longer, the charge will be adjusted accordingly.

Charge time will start when the team parks in front of your house if we have the key to your home.
If you live in a gated community, charge time will start when the team arrives at the gate and there is no access code previously provided.

Note: It’s important to minimize wait time, so providing a key or code will facilitate access and time efficiency for everyone.

Every first and one-time cleaning is done strictly by the hour; even if you had an in-home estimate. The estimate provided is only an educated and very rough guess of how much time we think the team will need to clean your home with the standards of the company. For ongoing clients, unless a flat fee has been established, all jobs are done at an hourly rate.

If more time will be needed the team will notify you if the allotted time has been reached. You can choose to stop service or prioritize tasks at the end.

Note. Make the best of it. Remove clutter, limit the conversation and distractions and allow the team to focus on getting your home cleaned efficiently.

This guarantee is only for clients with ongoing service that already provided a key for access. For any other cleaning appointment clients are expected to check the work as soon as the team finishes. Delegating your responsibility to check and approve the cleaning voids our guarantee, as the person assigned by you might have different standards of cleaning.

The team is trained to work efficiently, so when a surface is cleaned, it will be done to the company’s standard of service unless we’re instructed to skip an area or surface.

Note: Some clients request a “light cleaning” when they are trying to save money when hiring a cleaning service; but the term “light” house cleaning is often misunderstood. The misunderstanding comes from the fact that we typically do not define house cleaning in degrees of light, medium or heavy. It’s simple… either it’s included and done or not done at all. For first time or one time cleanings it might take a bit more time, however regular cleanings will help keep cost down. Keep in mind that all employees are paid by the hour and even though they are trained to work efficiently, we charge for the time it takes to complete a task.

If you had a one time or first time clean, any area not done was not charged therefore, if we need to come back to finish cleaning, you will pay the additional time.
If you have regular ongoing service, the team can come back and re-clean in order to meet company standards of service free of charge to you.

Note: That is why it’s very important you are there for one time or first time cleaning to verify the job when the team finishes.

The trend with most cleaning companies in Tucson is that not only do they hire ‘independent contractors’ so that they don’t have to check legal status and avoid paying employment taxes, but they also avoid paying the teams travel time.
Note: Maids by Trade pays all employees for their time, including from and back to the office and in between jobs as required by law. This is why we train our employees to be efficient with time management and on the job. According to Internal Revenue Service Publication 926, Household Employer’s Tax Guide, if you hire someone to do household work and if you control not only what work is done, but how it is done, you are considered to have a household employee. If you are going to hire a household employee, it is important to understand your obligations as a household employer.

No. You can pay with a check or credit card. In fact, we prefer these two forms of payment for easier management. Some businesses push for that because oftentimes they don’t fully report their employees or revenue. Maids by Trade is a company with an established reputation for ethical business practices, so we encourage our clients and business partners to properly document transactions as required by law. If you are a domestic employer and pay your employee in cash or off-the-books, you are liable for unpaid taxes.
