Family Reunion Month is every year in July.  It isn’t surprising that July is chosen because the weather is nice, the kids are out of school, and families are ablest to get together during this time.

A hundred years ago, families tended to stay in the same location.  Travel wasn’t easy or accessible so people tended to stay in the same area as they were born.  In current times, traveling and moving is so much easier.  Families are split apart and live all over the world.  Many people move to follow jobs.  You may not live in the same city, state, or even country as your parents or siblings.  Each person in your immediate family might live in a different location.  Because of that, it is so important for you and your family to all come together once a year for a great big get together.  Family is so important, and Family Reunion Month is here as a reminder to visit!

A Good Start on Family Reunion Month

The best way to celebrate Family Reunion Month is to have a family reunion!  One person or family needs to take charge of the planning.  A location needs to be chosen and invitations sent out well in advance, especially for those traveling long distances.  Some families choose to rotate locations between family members while others choose an exotic location that would serve as a vacation to everyone.  Any way you do it, it is going to take significant planning to bring everyone together.  You’ll need to find sleeping accommodations, activities to keep everyone entertained, and food for everyone.

Planning for the Party

If you are hosting the family reunion at your house during this year’s reunion, it is best to hire someone to come in and take care of the house cleaning in advance.  You’ll have enough on your plate and will not have time to think about the house cleaning.  Depending on the size of your family in attendance, you may have more house cleaning after everyone leaves as well!  Also it is beneficial to consider hiring caterers if you are having a big event unless everyone wants to chip in and split the work.  Hiring help for house cleaning and food will alleviate a lot of stress and allow you to enjoy the family reunion a lot more.

Planning activities is probably the most fun part of organizing for the reunion gathering.  You can get as creative as you want!  You may want to plan a hiking trip, a day at the amusement park, or game night…or maybe all of the above!  The activities will depend on the ages of the family members and how long they are staying in town.  Usually there is at least one large event during a family reunion such as a party or dinner.  Whatever you do, just don’t forget to get everyone together for a picture!  You’ll have those pictures to treasure for years to come.
