An integral part of making it to the gym is having a well-organized gym bag. We all know how important exercising is to our health and wellness.  Working out is the quickest way to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  We are all busy.  Life is jammed packed full of activities each and every day.

We have to find ways to fit a trip to the gym into our chaotic schedules.  There are many ways to find time for exercise.  You could hire help for other important activities to free up your time.  These could include hiring a maid service to clean your home, having healthy pre-planned meals delivered straight to your doorstep, or hiring a lawn service to take care of your lawn.

Organizing a Gym Bag Optimizes Time at the Gym

Without a gym bag, that trip to the gym just isn’t going to happen.  You’ll need to ask yourself what you really need for your gym activities.  It will vary with what type of activity you’ll be doing.  You won’t need a swimsuit if you will be playing basketball!  You want to bring everything that you’ll need without toting along anything extra to weigh you down.

What You Need in Your Gym Bag

Here are a few things you may want to include in your gym bag.

  • Clothes (depending on the activity)
  • Small towel for wiping sweat
  • Large towel for the shower
  • Toiletries
  • Gym Card
  • Water Bottle
  • Headphones

Pick the Right Gym Bag

Now that you know what to pack in your gym bag, you need to buy a gym bag to put it in.  You may think that any old bag will do, but you need a gym bag that makes it easier on you. You need a bag that has the space you need and makes it easy to grab what you need when you need it.  If you have a lot of stuff, a gym bag with compartments is key so that everything has its place.  You are going to be the one to use the bag so make sure you like it!  Unless you have an awesome maid, you’ll also be the one to organize and clean it so keep that in mind when purchasing your bag.

Size is important.  You want a gym bag that is big enough to tote all of your equipment, but not so large and clunky that carrying it is a pain.  Lay out all of your typical gym supplies to get an idea of the size of bag you’ll need.  Take a look at the straps of the bag to ensure they are comfortable and soft.

Gym Bag Organization Tips

Now that you have your gym bag and all of your supplies, here are a few tips to keep up the organization.

Organizing a Gym Bag tips

Clean it regularly.  Gym bags can get really gross really fast.  They can house a lot of germs if you’re not careful.  You’ll have lots of damp things in your bag (sweat, wet towels, damp swimsuits etc.) all in a closed space.  You can use a plastic bag to put your dirty/wet clothes in which will help a lot.  Wipe out your gym bag with an antibacterial wipe at least once a month.  If your bag allows, throw it in your dirty clothes hamper from time to time so that you or your maid service can wash it right along with your clothes.

Empty and fill your gym bag after you use it.  Don’t wait until you need to use it again.  Get into the routine of emptying all of the dirty clothes and used supplies from your bag as soon as you get home from the gym and repacking it for the next trip.  This way you can quickly grab your bag on the way out the door in the morning.

Add spares to your car.  Add the essentials to your car trunk or glove-box in case you forget something.  Carrying some spare cash, clothes, snacks etc. is good practice anyway.  It will save you the hassle of getting all the way to the gym and realizing you forgot something.

OK, now you have your organized and properly cleaned gym bag ready for your next trip to the gym.  You have no excuse now!  Go get healthy!
