For most individuals in arts and entertainment, it is extremely easy to just do their job within the creative capacity and not dive into other areas of life. The majority of actors, performers and those with social influence will avoid appearing to support one issue. They know doing so is risky and could hurt their careers.

That is exactly why what this woman said was so brave. If you are not familiar with her work, Jamelia Davis is a multi-talented entertainer and artist, best known for her music and performances within the R&B and a cappella genres. Since 2013, Jamelia has also been a regular panelist on Loose Women, a British talk show where women discuss politics, gossip, current events, arts and everything in between.

A Woman's Message of Support and Strength

Just like other stars, Jamelia has the right to only speak out when she wants to. But she wanted to dive into territory that most others would tremble at – the reality that domestic violence is still a prevalent, ugly and largely unspoken problem.

In the U.S. alone, the U.S. Department of Justice reports that 25 percent of all women experience domestic violence throughout their lifetime, and about 960,000 incidents take place per year. Globally, the World Health Center reports that 35 percent of women are subject to some type of partner violence or sexual abuse over their lifetime.

Support, Strength, Hope

It’s gratifying to see someone offer their story. When men and women band together to reach a solution, this problem can be solved, and it needs your voice.
