Cleaning the surfaces in a space is an easy way to make the room overall look better. For your bathroom, the bathroom counter is the key. A clean bathroom counter makes the whole room look organized and appealing. Read on to find out how to clean your bathroom counter.

How to Clean Bathroom Countertops

Basic Cleaning

Put away any items that are cluttering up your countertop. Once that’s done, fill the bathroom sink with warm soapy water. Wet a sponge or rag and wipe down the entire counter top. After wiping the counter dry with a clean rag.

To make all bathroom cleaning easier, have the right tools handy. A caddy is a good way to collect all your supplies and have them ready to go. Useful items might include bleach, vinegar, baking soda, microfiber cloths, toothbrushes, and any of your other favorite cleaning supplies.

Sanitize Countertops

If you are being extra vigilant about germs, consider using a disinfecting wipe or a sanitizing spray. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant. You can use a vinegar-filled spray bottle to spray your counter then dry with a clean cloth. Repeat as necessary to keep your counters free from germs.

Remove Stains from a Bathroom Counter

First in a small bowl make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the stain and wait 10 minutes. Wipe off with a soft wet sponge and dry with a clean cloth.

Counter Materials

Something to keep in mind when cleaning is the material of your counter. Different counter materials will have different cleaning needs. We cover counter types more in-depth in a different article, but here’s a quick guide to some common counter types and how to clean them:

  • Laminate

Laminate can be cleaned with bleach, vinegar, disinfecting wipes, or basic warm soapy water. Laminate’s not picky, so scrub with any of these products using a sponge or rag and then dry with a clean cloth afterward. Caution: Do not clean laminate counter tops with scouring pads, scouring powder, or steel wool. These abrasives will leave micro-scratches, making future stains more likely.

  • Marble

Fill a spray bottle with an all-purpose water-based cleaner. Spray the cleaner on the surface of your counter and wipe down the entire marble countertop with a soft wet cloth or sponge. Don’t use any acidic cleaners (like vinegar) as they will eat away at the surface of the marble and cause etching or dull spots.

  • Granite

Only use warm soapy water to clean a granite countertop. Wipe down the surface with a microfiber cloth that has been saturated with the soapy water. Caution: Never use ammonia, bleach, vinegar, lemon, or any other acidic cleaners on granite. They can break down the sealant and cause damage.

These tips will help a high-traffic bathroom stay tidy and clean. If you can’t keep up with the mess, or you aren’t sure how to clean your specific type of counter material, call your local maid service to help you.
