How to Wash Baby Clothes

What Kind of Detergent to Use?

Don’t use too harsh of a detergent. This could make your child break out in a rash or feel uncomfortable. Your baby’s clothing should be washed with something gentle, preferably with no dyes or fragrances.

There are lots of options out there for gentle or baby detergents. Many people choose a special baby detergent and wash their baby’s clothes separately from their own. First, if it’s not safe for your baby, why is it okay for you? Even if you’re not concerned about using regular detergent on your own clothes, consider this: if you are using a harsher detergent that you consider unsafe for your baby, they are still coming into contact with it. Aren’t you cuddling, holding, and cradling your baby up against you and your shirt? Your detergent affects your baby, so whichever detergent you decide upon, consider having the whole household make the switch.

How to Remove Urine or Poop Stains

Always try to get to the stain as fast as possible. This will prevent the stain from setting in and making it more difficult to remove.

Soak the stain in cold water first. This will loosen the stain before cleaning and make it easier to remove. After soaking, scrub the stain with a toothbrush and soapy water before washing with a very mild baby soap in the washing machine.

First soak the stain in cool water a few minutes. Then scrub the stain with a toothbrush and a solution made from 1 part rubbing alcohol and one part water. Then launder as usual.
