Pendant light fixtures are a beautiful way to light up any room in a home. However, these noticeable lighting elements only look good when they’re clean. Cleaning these accessories is actually quite easy and can be done quickly. Here’s our step-by-step method to cleaning pendant light fixtures.
Step One
Before cleaning, turn the power off to the light fixture. If a ladder must to used to reach the light fixture be sure to use caution. Place the ladder in a secure spot on the floor and remember never to use the top of the ladder to stand on.
Step Two
The method of dissembling a pendant light fixture will differ depending on its structure and what company made it. First, wait until the light bulb is cool to the touch and take it out. Then carefully remove the shade, being careful not to drop it. There may be clips on the side of the shade or you may need a screwdriver.
Step Three
There are two different ways to clean these lights. Option one is use a glass cleaner such as Windex and a paper towel to clean the pendant light fixture. Option two is to clean with warm soapy water. If the glass is hand painted, do not use an abrasive cloth to clean or dry. You can instead place the fixture in a sink filled with warm soapy water to soak for five or ten minutes. Rinse the pendant off and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Gently wipe the light bulb itself with a damp cloth to increase brightness.
Step Four
Reassemble the light fixture by reattaching the shade and light bulb after they’ve been cleaned and dried. Again, if you’re using a ladder, be cautious. When you’ve finished, you’re ready to return power to the light.
