clean vaseVases come in an almost infinite variety of shapes and designs. The number of vases doesn’t matter when it comes to cleaning though! We’ve collected a handful of cleaning tips that will help you clean any of them. Check out these different ways to get a clean vase.

Caution

Be careful when cleaning a vase; most are delicate and easily broken. If you are soaking the vase in liquid, do so in a plastic tub. This will help prevent chips or cracks in the vase.

Salt and Vinegar

Create a paste with a tablespoon of salt and just enough vinegar. Spread the paste around the inside of the vase and let it sit for about 20 minutes. After you’ve waited, rinse the vase. Let the vase air dry.

Baking Soda

Fill the vase with water and a tablespoon of baking soda (add an extra tablespoon or two if the vase is very large). Add about 1/2 of white vinegar to the vase (also adjust this depending on vase size). The combination of baking soda and vinegar will create a fizzing reaction that will remove build-up. After this subsides, scrub the inside of the vase with a sponge, bottle brush, or a scrubber on a long handle. Once you’ve scrubbed the vase, rinse it out with clean water. If possible, set the vase upside down to dry. If that’s not possible, just let it air dry.

This method is especially useful for long-necked vases.

Rice

Fill the bottom of the vase halfway with warm water, two tablespoons of vinegar, and a few drops of dishwashing soap and a cup of uncooked rice. Shake the vase for several minutes so the rice can “scrub” the inside of the vase. Nifty! Dump the mixture after shaking and rinse out the vase with clean water. Let air dry.

This method works well for vases with very small openings.

Other Tips

  • Lemon works well for removing hard water deposits. Cut a lemon in half and rub it on the surface. If your hand won’t fit inside, quarter the lemon, drop the pieces in, and swirl them around.
  • For glass vases, you can of course use a glass cleaner. If the bottom is not reachable, spray the cleaner directly onto the bottom and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse well with water and let air dry.
