When life hands you lemons, clean! Lemons aren’t just for delicious lemonade; they’re also natural disinfectants and great for cleaning. Here’s a beginner’s guide on how to clean with the power of lemon.

How to Clean with Lemon

Clean a Microwave

This is an easy no-scrub way to clean and sanitize your microwave. Fill a microwave-safe bowl with about half a cup of water. Cut a lemon in half and place the sliced halves inside the bowl. Nuke the bowl for five minutes. After it’s done, leave the door closed for another minute before removing the bowl. (You may need to use oven mitts or something similar to grab the bowl. Be careful!) Do a quick wipe-down with a cloth or paper towel to get all the steamed-off food and you’ve got a clean microwave.

Remove Stains

Lemon juice is also a great way to remove stains from white clothing. Throw your clothing inside the washer and add 1/2 cup of lemon juice in addition to the laundry detergent. Run the washer for its full cycle and let the clothing sun dry.

Remove Odors From a Garbage Disposal

Garbage disposals get coated in food matter and grease and they can easily start to smell gross. You can prevent foul odors coming from your disposal by using lemon peels. Every time you use a lemon, throw the peels into the disposal. The disposal will chop them up and a lemony fresh smell will fill the kitchen.

Make The Vacuum Smell Wonderful

Just like the disposal, your vacuum can start to emit a weird smell after continual use. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the vacuum bag or dirt bin before using the vacuum. Your rooms will be left dust-free and smelling fresh.

Remove Soap Scum From Shower Doors

Soap scum inevitably coats bathroom surfaces. Luckily, it’s easy to remove. Add a few drops of lemon juice to a clean cloth or sponge and wipe down the shower doors. The acid from the lemon will eat away the soap scum and leave the shower doors looking amazing.
