Bathtubs are magnets for gross things like mildew and soap scum. Once the tub is dirty, the whole bathroom feels grungy. The good news is that it’s easy to get a clean bathtub. Here are our bathtub cleaning secrets we’d like to share. Use them to keep that tub squeaky clean!

How to Clean a Bathtub and clean bathtub

Inside the Tub

Deep cleaning a bathtub is not as time-consuming as you may think. Fill a spray bottle with equal parts vinegar and warm water. Spray the entire tub with the vinegar-water mixture and let the mixture sit for 15 minutes. After you’ve waited, wipe thoroughly with a micro-fiber cloth. Rinse the tub and repeat if needed.

Remove Stains

Fill a spray bottle with half vinegar, half warm water. Sprinkle your tub with baking soda and spray on the vinegar-water mixture. Let the baking soda and vinegar sit 15 minutes. Don’t be alarmed when the mixture starts to bubble. This is what you want to happen. Rinse with water then wipe the tub down with a clean cloth.

The Drain

Here’s an easy no-scrub method:

  • Pour a pot of boiling water down the drain.
  • After you’ve done that, add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the drain.
  • Mix together 1 cup of hot water with 1 cup of vinegar. Pour this on top of the baking soda.
  • Wait 10 minutes, then pour another pot of boiling water down the drain.

The Jets

You can’t have a clean bathtub without clean bath jets. They seem like they would be tricky to clean (maybe scrub with a toothbrush?) but they’re not. Fill the tub with water until the jets are covered. Add 1/2 cup of bleach and 2 tablespoons of dish washing liquid to the bathtub. Turn on the bathtub jets for 15 minutes. Again, no scrubbing for you. The jets clean themselves! After 15 minutes empty the water from the tub. Rinse with warm water to ensure all the bleach and dish washing soap is gone.

Bathtub Mat

Don’t forget your bathtub’s accessories! Fabric shower mats can generally just be thrown in the washer. Rubber shower mats used inside your tub can be cleaned by partially filling your bathtub with warm water and about a cup of bleach. While wearing rubber gloves, pry up your mat and scrub it with a scrub brush or sponge. Once it’s clean, empty the bleach water from the tub, rinse, and empty the tub again.

Mold in the Bathtub

This process only takes 15 minutes to complete. In a container mix together baking soda and liquid Castile soap until you have a paste. Apply the paste on the bathtub and wait 10 minutes. Rinse the tub with clean warm water and wipe it down with a clean cloth.

Mixing Cleaning Products

We’d like to remind you it’s never a good idea to mix cleaning products together. Some chemical combinations can burn skin or create toxic fumes. Always be sure to rinse the bathtub thoroughly after cleaning with chemicals.
