Remove Stains from ConcreteImagine changing the oil in your car while in the drive way. The oil accidentally spills and gets all over the concrete. You look down at the stain and wonder “How am I going to get that stain out?” Removing stains from concrete is actually quite simple. From oil spills to stubborn paint, we can help you remove stains from a concrete surface.

Small Stains

Getting those small stains out of concrete is actually easier than many may think. In a bowl combine warm water with a strong soap. Saturate a scrub brush in the soapy water and scrub the stain. Continue to scrub the concrete until the stain is gone. Rinse the concrete after the job is completed.

Stubborn Stains

Concrete cleaner is the best way to remove those stubborn concrete stains. First apply any concrete cleaner of your choice to the stain. Then get out the pressure washer (you can rent one if you don’t own one). Turn on your pressure washer and blast the stain away.

Oil Stains

To remove an oil stain from concrete you need to make a poultice out of an absorbent material (such as kitty litter or sawdust) and a solvent (such as lacquer thinner or acetone). Saturate the absorbing material with the solvent, then smear this over the oil stain. Cover this with plastic and let the poultice sit for 3 or 4 hours. The solvent will break down the oil and the kitty litter or sawdust will suck it out of the concrete.

Grease Stains

Apply sawdust or cornmeal to the stain and let it sit for 3 to 4 hours. These substances are ultra-absorbent and will make the grease disappear. You can also combine the sawdust with a solvent, as in the example above.

Paint

To remove paint from a concrete surface, it would be best to use a paint stripper. Apply any paint stripper of your choice to the paint on the concrete. Let the product sit for 3 to 5 hours. Exercise caution and be sure to keep pets and children away from the paint stripper. After the paint stripper has settled, use a wire scrub brush to scrub the paint off the concrete.  Rinse down your concrete to remove leftover chemicals.
