The pool table was built for fun! Add a group of friends and some drinks and you have the makings of a great night. If during the fun a klutz spills a drink on your pool table, there’s no need to get angry. We have the steps you need to get a clean pool table so the party can go on.

How to Clean a Pool Table

Pool Table Balls

Fill a sink with warm soapy water and place the pool balls inside. Gently wash them with a clean cloth. Once washed, rinse them with clean water and dry with a clean cloth. You can also wax your pool balls. Pool ball slipperiness and cleanliness is a matter of preference for many players.

Pool Table Felt

You should clean your pool table after each playing session. To do so, remove everything from the surface then use a pool table brush to clean the felt. Brush in a back-and-forth motion. Do not use a circular motion as this will make the bristles go against the felt.

Pool Table Pockets

Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the pool table pockets. Use an extension attachment to get inside the holes.

Pool Table Wood

First, do a simple dusting and just wipe the surface down with a clean cloth. Then polish with any wood polish. Spray all wooden areas—the sides, legs, and top—then wipe with a clean cloth.

How to Remove Stains From a Pool Table

If possible, get to the stain right away. Use a clean white cloth to soak up as much of the liquid as possible. Do not scrub. Blotting is the best technique to remove a liquid without ruining the felt. After you’ve absorbed as much as possible, blot the area with a cloth dampened with cold water. If the stain persists, blot the stain with a solution made of equal parts water and vinegar. Go through these steps until the stain has lifted.

Note: Do not use warm water to remove stain. The heat will set the stain in the material and make it harder to remove.

How to Protect a Pool Table

  • Do not set mugs, cups, or any food containers on top of a pool table. They can spill onto the felt and ruin it. Ask guests to eat and drink at a distance from the pool table.
  • Do not let animals walk on a pool table. Their claws will ruin the felt and it will need to be replaced.
  • Invest in a pool table cover.
